Kuwait became a Contracting Party to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property on December 02, 2014, and joined the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) on September 09, 2016. Additionally, Kuwait is a member of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC).

All subsequent renewals are paid at the beginning of each year subsequent to the year of entry phase of the patent application in Kuwait starting 1st January to 31st March of every year with a 3 months grace period up to 30th June with a late penalty fee.
In Kuwait, a patent remains valid for 20 years from the date of the international filing.
